Route 331 south of the airport, five minutes from the Tomigusuku-Nakachi interchange — and the island's biggest rental-car return station is next door.

Mango country

Tomigusuku is the main island's largest mango-producing city. Apple mango from mid-May, Keitt mango from late August. The market takes advance orders.

Souvenirs the airport doesn't stock

The shop says so on the shelf label, in writing: these stickers are not sold at Naha Airport. Prices are village prices, not terminal prices.

Every Okinawa trip ends the same way: a rental car to return, an hour to kill, and a terminal full of overpriced last-minute souvenirs. Toyosaki is the fix — and it has the airport's live departure board mounted inside the shop.

The JA farmers market here wears its identity on the building: Mango no Sato — mango country. Tomigusuku grows more of them than anywhere else on the main island, and in season the shop takes advance orders by the box.

Apple mango · mid-May to mid-September

The classic. Boxes are sold for gifting and for shipping, and the counter takes reservations before the crop lands.

The green-skinned late variety — sweeter than it looks, and in season when the apple mangoes are finishing.

Omu-taco don, invented by the mayor

The canteen inside the market — Warawasa — serves the town's own invention: taco rice under an omelette, credited to the mayor of Tomigusuku. There's Okinawa soba and chanpurū too, and fresh mango juice at ¥800 in season.

Note the hours: the canteen runs 10:00–14:00 and closes on Wednesdays — much shorter than the shop around it.

Tigumakan and sugarcane dye

The red-tiled building at the edge of the site is the craft hall. Inside is ūji-zome — cloth dyed with sugarcane, a technique local to here — sold as card cases, bags and noren curtains, with the workshop attached.

They run coaster and shawl dyeing sessions by reservation. It's the least touristy hour you can spend within fifteen minutes of the airport.

By car

About 13–15 minutes from Naha Airport, south on Route 331 toward Itoman. From the Naha Airport Expressway, it's roughly 5 minutes off the Tomigusuku-Nakachi interchange.

Parking is 176 spaces (13 large, 159 standard, 4 accessible), open 24 hours — as are the toilets.

By bus — eleven routes

The stop is called Michi-no-Eki Toyosaki and sits right at the site. Eleven routes serve it, including 55, 56, 88, 98, 105 and 256.

From Naha Bus Terminal (Asahibashi) it's about 34–37 minutes for ¥470–530. You can also come by Yui Rail to Akamine and change to a bus.

You're close to the airport here, so taxis are more available than in the north — but a foreign SIM still often can't dial a Japanese number. Three ways that work:

Why stop at Toyosaki rather than the airport?+

Because it's 15 minutes away, the rental-car returns are next door, and the prices are village prices. The information station also carries a live Naha Airport departure board, so you can shop while watching your flight — and the shop stocks souvenirs it says outright are not sold at the airport.

What are the opening hours?+

Generally 9:00–18:00, but they vary by facility and sources disagree slightly — check before a tight schedule. The canteen is the short one: 10:00–14:00, closed Wednesdays.

When is mango season?+

Apple mango runs from mid-May to mid-September and Keitt mango from late August to early October. The market takes advance orders by the box before the crop arrives.

Can I get there by bus?+

Yes — unusually easily. The Michi-no-Eki Toyosaki stop is served by eleven routes, and it's 34–37 minutes from Naha Bus Terminal for ¥470–530.
