Senaga Island has long been worshipped as “God’s Island.
It is believed to be the place where Amamikyo, the goddess of the creation of Ryukyu, first alighted, and ruins such as Secho Gusuku and Child Treasure Rock exist here.

Senaga Island as a U.S. military base
In 1944, during World War II, the residents of Senaga Island were ordered to leave to defend the Oroku Airfield.

Surrounded by coral reefs (ino), vast mudflats appear at low tide. The island is also a good place for nature observation, as it is home to species such as the cockatoo crab and giant hermit crab.
