Four courses to enjoy nature to the fullest

Oishi Rinzan offers four walking trails that allow visitors to enjoy different aspects of the mountain.

All trails are included in the entrance fee, so you can enjoy the great outdoors to your heart’s content.

  1. Strange Rocks and Gigantic Rocks Course: (1,000m/approx. 35min.) This course allows visitors to experience the world’s northernmost tropical karst landform, which was formed by the uplift of limestone layers 250 million years ago. The scenery created by the life-giving towns and giant rocks is otherworldly.
  2. Churaumi Observatory Course: (900 m / approx. 30 min.) This course offers many scenic spots, including a forest of sheer rocks and a panoramic view of the ocean from the top. There are many places of worship and rocks with legends scattered throughout the area.
  3. Barrier-free course: (600m/20 min.) Wooden deck course that is safe for the elderly and wheelchair users. A covered rest area is also available.
  4. Banyan Tree and Forest Course: (900 m / approx. 30 min.) This is a forest course where giant banyan trees, 60,000 cycads, and other subtropical trees grow densely. You can fully enjoy the breath of dense vegetation in the fresh air.

History and Culture of Oishi Rinzan

Oishi Rinzan is an important place in Ryukyuan mythology and history.

It is believed that Amamikyo, the god of island building, first descended to this place and created the first sacred site in Okinawa, Asimui.

During the Ryukyu Kingdom period, it was also used as a place to pray for the prosperity of the royal family and safe voyages, and is dotted with many myths and places of worship.
